Children – Safety First
According to the NSW Government around 50 children fall from windows and balconies each year. The importance of children’s safety around windows and balconies could not be more pressing in light of recent events where-by a three-year old girl fell through a fly screen from the first floor of her home.
From 1 May 2013 the amendments to the National Building Code will mean that all new buildings will have to comply with strict codes to improve the safety of children around windows and balconies.
The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and the NSW Government have worked together on the ‘Kids Don’t Fly’ publication which outlines ways to prevent children from falling from windows and balconies. The publication includes a checklist which can help to improve the safety of your home. These documents can be found in many languages from here
