Tips for Avoiding Damage by Termites
Termites are commonly known as “white ants”. They are social creatures that eat any cellulose-based materials, including the timber used in constructing buildings. Whilst they may be small, if gone unnoticed they can cause extensive damage to your home. They can attack at any time and in any building; they will eat furniture, paper materials and fabric, and will cause damage to plasterboard, and the plastic coating of electrical wiring.
Some tips for avoiding damage by termites:
• Plumbing leaks and roof leaks should be addressed promptly, as termites are attracted by damp conditions;
• Garden beds should not be built up against walls;
• Do not stack materials against walls, as this can allow termites to enter without early detection;
• Have a pest controller carry out an inspection every 12 months
