The National Broadband Network (NBN) is an upgrade to Australia’s existing telecommunications network and will provide the infrastructure for affordable, high-speed Internet and phone access.
The NBN is currently being rolled out across Australia and Strata Choice is be working with our industry association (Strata Community Australia) and NBN Co to help streamline the communication, planning and eventual installation in apartment complexes, townhouses, and villas.
NBN Co has already made over 2,000,000 premises NBN ready which includes 640,000 in New South Wales. Many new apartment complexes have had NBN installed during the construction of the building and residents are enjoying the services that can be offered over the NBN network.
Some of Strata Choice clients have also had NBN installed within the building. Before NBN Co and its contractors can start installation into a building, they liaise with our office. The stages for installation are the following:
- NBN advises the commencement of the planned installation to the premises;
- NBN appoints a project manager who is the main point of contact with our office;
- Detailed plans and drawings are provided by NBN to denote where cables and equipment will be installed in the building;
- The Executive Committee of the property will review the planned approach by NBN and adjustments may be made where necessary and possible;
- Strata Choice facilitates the logistics of communication to residents and access to NBN contractors;
- Strata Choice will arrange any telecommunication lines, which may include elevator emergency phone lines, fire equipment and other essential service lines to be migrated over to the NBN network;
- Once the equipment is installed the NBN will be brought online and residents will be able to access the network through their preferred provider.
Who is NBN Co? NBN Co is a government business entity who is managing the network rollout. They are responsible for providing a wholesale service to telecommunication companies who provide retail products to homes and businesses. As a wholesaler, NBN Co does not sell directly to the public.
